Over the past few weeks, ALS has been dominating the social networks lately and many people including billionaires, celebrities, Politicians and Public Figures have all done the ALS challenge and posted them on their social network. These people have all grabbed buckets of ice water and dump them on their heads in the campaign to raise awareness for the disease.

So, what is ALS?

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis  or more commonly known as (ALS) is a motor neurone disease (MND). It is a neurodegenerative disease with mostly unknown causes. It is characterised by muscle spasticity, rapidly progressive weakness due to muscle atropy, difficulty in speaking (dysarthria), swallowing (dysphagia), and breathing (dyspnea)

This ALS Ice Bucket Challenge by Anthony Carbajal is one that stands out as he has humorously dressed up in a bikini top and washed the car before dousing himself with ice water.

After that, he has explained why he has decided to take up the challenge.

“I’ve been so terrified of ALS my entire life because it runs in my family,” he says, breaking down. “My grandmother had it. She was a second mother to me. My mother was diagnosed when I was in high school and five months ago, I was diagnosed at 26 years old. ALS is so, so f—king scary, you have no idea.”

After watching this video, i hope that you now understand what ALS a little bit more than just public figures throwing ice buckets filled with water onto themselves.
